Youngaleena is a Community built in the shadows of the Hamersley Ranges which the Banjima Families that live there call Karijini. I wrote this song in tribute to my old people who wanted to live back on their Yurlu, back on the lands from their dreams. This is where they wanted to live back on country.
I love when the big rains come, it wakes up the land and refreshes everything and being out on country it’s an even more special time. The Lightning storms dance across the valley, it’s just a beautiful time out on beautiful country.

Lyrics

An old man said, ‘I want to live on my homelands’
“I want to live, where I can see forever”
‘somewhere I can rest my weary mind”
and dream of times gone by
as the rain dances across the plains
and the wind blows through my soul

Youngaleena, you’re my heart, my soul
Youngaleena yeah, you’ll never know
I don’t know where I’ll be without you
I was just a wondering soul without you
Youngaleena you are everything, you’re my home

When the winter rains come the rivers flow crystal clear
I walk in my homelands, without no fear
I just love watching the rains, on the plains
And the waterfalls along the range
It feels almost like magic, watching the rain fall on my country again

And when I’m gone, take me back home
So, I can be free again
Away from the troubles and the hard times, of this cold hard world.
Lay me down in the land of my dreams
Let me rest in the shadows of the ranges
Lay me down cover me in my red soil
