Our Ways, Our Stories is a song I wrote many years ago about who we are as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island People.
Australia is always questioning us, trying to challenge us, denying us in many ways but all we need to say is these Are our Ways these are Our Stories. I sing about our Community, The Ochre on our skin, how we still live off the land and sea even in this 21st Century.

Lyrics

The clouds are rolling in, I’m holding on, such a lonely road
The lightning strikes it wakes up the land, what a lovely sight
ooh oohhh
Laaa Laaa Laaa lalalaaaa

The dreamtime calls when I close my eyes
my visions are so real, like I’m really there
Dancing, by the firelight

Paintings on the walls, have ancient stories to tell
Reflections of the way that I used to be,
Images of the past

Because these are our ways, these are our stories
Our history is painted on the walls in all their glories
Because these are our ways these are our stories
Our history is painted on the walls in all their glories

Ochre on my skin, represents who Iam, connection and my community
Feeling good, standing strong, just like the way we’ve always done before
oohhh oooohh
Laaa laaa laaa lalalaaaa

We still sing our songs, our ancient songs,
Our lore is still strong, it will never die
We will survive, we always did.

We live off the land
We Hunt off the sea
Even in this 21st century
We will never change coz that’s the way it’s always been
