From the recording Wandering Whilst Im Wondering
My Sharliya is a song I wrote about my Daughter Sharliya.
I sing about our journey with her growing up, how we have had people come and go in our lives but also how we have had fun visiting country, travelling across Australia exploring and spending time with each other and family.
And also reminding her, even though she already knows, that her Mum loves her always too and I love that.
Lyrics
For so long now it’s been, just me and you
Just us in this big house, just getting through
We laugh, sometimes we fight and we sometimes cry
But we are always together, just like when we ride
Early mornings, another day, another plait
Just a two minute walk to school, yeah you like that
you never stay home you don’t like being bored
Nothing here to do anyway, and you don’t like doing chores
Where would I be without you
My sunshine my shadow, I wouldn’t have a clue
People have come and gone made us smile made us cry
But at the end of the day there’s always me and you
My Sharliya, Dad loves you
There’s nothing we’d rather do than be out in the bush or by the sea
Enjoying our Ngurra and all that we see
Or driving the buggies and motorbikes kicking up major dust
Spending our days like that is always a must
Now that you’re growing I just want you to know
That I’ll always be your dad and I’ll always be home
But if you ever need me anytime,
Just call my name I’ll come running no matter how far from home
And just remember, Mum loves you always too.
